Gesture- and Sign-Language Based Communication in Human-Computer Interaction |
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers working on gesture-based interfaces, gestural interaction, and sign-language. Under the focus of human-computer interfaces, the workshop will encompass all aspects of gestural interaction, including (but not restricted to):
Proceedings of the work presented at the workshop will be published and made available to both those attending the workshop and others. Writing guidelines are available on request.
This workshop will be run in the lines of the Gesture Workshop '96 at the University of York held by Philip Harling and Alistair Edwards in March 1996.
The workshop will be held at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) in Bielefeld near the campus of the university. Bielefeld (~300 000 inhabitants) is located in North Germany on the flanks of the wooded hills of the Teutoburg Forest. As the regional center of East Westphalia, Bielefeld is easily reached on an hourly schedule by way of IC, ICE, and EC trains on the route Dortmund- Hannover. The nearest airports with hourly train connections are Hannover (115 km), Dortmund-Wickede (110 km), Düsseldorf (190 km), and Frankfurt (320 km). The regional airports Paderborn-Lippstadt (50 km) and Münster-Osnabrück (75 km) can be reached by airport shuttles.
You are invited to present your work (at whatever stage) in form of a paper, poster or demonstration and to attend the workshop, even if you do not present some work. We will have non-overlapping sessions structured by subtopics and will allow for plenty of time for discussions.
If you have already filled in the Attendance Intention Form, you will receive the registration forms in January 1997. Everybody else who whishes to receive the registration forms should either fill in the Attendance Intention Form or write to the organisers.
We would like to stress that we are interested in submissions of work that is currently in progress, regardless of the stage of the work. Also we would like to stress that this workshop is intended as an interdisciplinary event. In writing, please use language that is understood across disciplines.
Submissions that clearly state significance and state of the work are solicited in the form of papers (up to 12 pages) or extended abstracts (2 pages). Please send your submission to the organisers (gw97@TechFak.Uni-Bielefeld.DE) or send it by fax or post using the details at the top of this page.
Proceedings will be published after the workshop. Details for final papers will be given at the workshop.
Please note that you have to register if you want to present your work. See section "Attending the Workshop".
